President Attends Festive Events Marking the 32nd Anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan
On September 27, the solidary and united Turkmen people celebrated the main holiday of the country – the 32nd anniversary of the sacred independence of the Motherland with special enthusiasm and joy.
To mark this significant date, nationwide festive events, embodying the high creative spirit and constructive, transformative energy of the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, were held in all the regions of our homeland.
The prosperous life of the Turkmen people in the present era is a result of fundamental reforms initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag and now successfully continued under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Our country celebrates the next glorious date of the national calendar in the year “Happy Youth with Arkadag Serdar” with new labour achievements, each of which will be a separate chapter in the chronicle of Turkmenistan’s independence.
…Following the good tradition, the venue for the main celebrations of the 32nd anniversary of the sovereignty of Turkmenistan was the State Tribune complex that greeted numerous distinguished guests in festive decorations.
The members of the Government, the Chairwoman and deputies of the Mejlis, members of the Halk Maslahaty, heads of security, defence and law-enforcement agencies, ministries and industry departments, public organisations, hyakims of the velayats and Ashgabat, heads of diplomatic representative offices and missions accredited to Turkmenistan and representatives of foreign delegations, who had arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the Independence Day celebrations, stood on the State Tribune.
The military servants of all the troops of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan lined up in the square in front of the State Tribune.
The watch showed 10.00. All those present in the square greeted President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with great enthusiasm.
Traditionally, the festive events began with a military parade, which demonstrated the defensive capacity of the Motherland, the high professionalism and techniques of Turkmen soldiers who stand guard over the peaceful and calm life of the people, the sacred borders of the Motherland and the achievements of sovereignty.
The Minister of Defence, Secretary of the State Security Council B. Gundogdiyev requested the President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan, General of the Army Serdar Berdimuhamedov to start a military parade marking the 32nd anniversary of the independence of the Motherland.
The President of Turkmenistan gave the command to begin the parade.
…The commander of the military parade, Colonel R. Ayazov reported to the Minister of Defence, Secretary of the State Security Council B. Gundogdiyev on the readiness of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan for the parade.
The Minister of Defence, Secretary of the State Security Council accepted the report and made a detour of the troops, greeting the squads, consisting of military servants and cadets of specialised higher educational establishments and schools, soldiers and officers of the National Army, standing shoulder to shoulder.
The National Anthem of Turkmenistan was performed. The State Flag of Turkmenistan rose along the flagpole, instilling pride in their beloved prosperous Motherland in the hearts of all those present. Unfolding in all its grandeur, the sacred Flag symbolises such enduring values as true patriotism, selfless love of the Motherland and the high creative spirit of our people.
Turkmen warriors – officers, soldiers and cadets, who had lined up in the square, took a sacred oath of allegiance to the Motherland, the people and the President. Today, servants of the National Army not only sacredly maintain the glorious traditions accumulated and carried through centuries, but also demonstrate their devotion to the behests of their ancestors.
Following the tradition, the festive parade was opened by a group of flag bearers, who passed in front of the State Tribune with the State Flag of Turkmenistan and the battle flags of all the troops of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan in their hands to the accompaniment of a ceremonial march.
The group was followed by cadets of Berdimuhamed Annayev military school of the Ministry of Defence, who marched in front of the State Tribune.
Women-military servants, who conscientiously serve their Motherland in the security, defence and law-enforcement agencies and make a significant contribution to ensuring peace and cohesion in the country, marched in orderly ranks.
They were followed by battalions of officers of the National Army, the State Customs Service and the State Migration Service.
Participants of the parade in honour of this year’s anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan included students from the Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Institute of National Security and the Frontier Guard Institute.
The soldiers of a motorised rifle battalion provided an illustrative example of impeccable techniques and high skill. They were followed by the pilots of the Air Force, reliably defending the peaceful skies over the Motherland.
The soldiers of a tank battalion, having excellent skills in driving the NG powerful tanks marched in front of the State Tribune. The military personnel of the artillery and anti-aircraft artillery battalions and the Marine Corps marched along the square. During military training and tactical exercises, they demonstrate high professionalism.
The participants of this year’s parade were soldiers of the Türkmen Edermen special forces battalions of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of National Security and the State Frontier Guard Service. This generation is worthy of the glory of such great commanders as Gerogly Beg, Toghrul Beg, Chagry Beg, Alp Arslan, Malik Shah, Sultan Sanjar, Bayram Khan and Sultan Jelal ad-Din, who left an unfading mark in the history of the Turkmen people.
The military parade continued with a festive procession of the equestrian units of the security, defence and law-enforcement agencies.
A distinctive feature of this year’s festive events was a parade of warships of the Navy of Turkmenistan. The participants of the parade watched live the procession of the flotilla in the waters of the port on the Caspian Sea on a huge monitor installed in the square in front of the State Tribune.
Then modern military machines and equipment, which are in service with the National Army, appeared. The mechanised columns of all the troops followed one another across the square.
The ongoing military reform in Turkmenistan has made it possible to supply all the divisions of the security, defence and law-enforcement agencies, including the Ministry of National Security, with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment and to modernise their material and technical resources on a regular basis.

The ultra-modern ground and aviation military machines and weapons demonstrated at the festive parade in honour of the 32nd anniversary of the sacred independence of Turkmenistan vividly illustrated the tireless efforts of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to enhance the defence capacity, to modernise the Armed Forces and to optimise the activities of the security, defence and law-enforcement agencies.
Then the festivities returned to the ground: a separate battalion of the Guard of Honour of the Ministry of Defence appeared in the square in front of the State Tribune.
Two horsemen in national costumes, who were leading a graceful dun Ahalteke horse dressed in magnificent jewellery, spotlighting the gracefulness and heavenly beauty of the horse, attracted the attention of numerous guests and participants of the festive event.
The beautiful miraculous horse Arkaly, shining in the rays of the sun, is a descendant of the famous parents Melegush and Elwan well known among experts and connoisseurs of Ahalteke horses.
This wonderful representative of the elite livestock of the legendary Ahalteke breed was presented to the President on behalf of the members of the Government as a gift for the 32nd anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan and as a sign of sincere gratitude for the grandiose reforms of the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State and for his unceasing concern for the happiness and wellbeing of the Turkmen people and the prosperity of the Motherland.
The Turkmen horsemen with the State Flags in their hands began moving in a spectacular procession, symbolising the resolute advancement of our country along the path of sacred independence.
The image of Aba Annayev – a talented horse breeder and an expert in his field, who raised the famous pedigree lines of the unique breed, appeared riding a horse, accompanied by skillful riders. Today, the name of this famous horse breeder is proudly borne by the Central Asia’s first International Academy that trains highly qualified specialists in horse breeding and equestrian sports.
The swift-footed Ahalteke horses as fast as the wind, which appeared in the square led by the legendary Akhan, nurtured by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, aroused genuine admiration. The horse again demonstrated its ability to walk on its hind legs. In 2018, Akhan walked 10 metres in a record time of 4.19 seconds, and this achievement was included in the Guinness World Records.
Traditionally, a beautiful equestrian ceremony, performed by the Türkmen Atlary State Association and the renowned Galkynyş group of national equestrian games well known not only in the country but also abroad, became a wonderful dedication to the main holiday of the country.
The daring horsemen and unsurpassed riders performed in a show. The crowning number was an acrobatic pyramid built by the riders on the back of the horse, which was crowned with the fluttering banner of Turkmenistan. The audience rewarded the skilled riders with thunderous standing ovation.
A kind of horse parade and procession of flag bearers was followed by a theatrical musical and theatrical performance “Şöhrata beslenýär, şana beslenýär beýik döwrüň şanly Garaşsyzlygy”.
The dance groups and theatre artists came to the square. They reproduced the images of Alp Arslan, Magtymguly and other outstanding ancestors, the memory of whom has been passing down from one generation to another for centuries. The glorious sons of the Turkmen people cordially congratulated President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the title of Hero of Turkmenistan and inspiringly appealed to their descendants, who would raise the glory of the sovereign Motherland.
Thanks to modern television broadcasting and the Internet, many of our compatriots and people in different countries of the world could share the festive mood of the people of Turkmenistan on air.
The festively decorated automotive platform of the Arkadag City Hyakimlik entered the square. The city of the future, illustrating the enormous economic and investment potential of the country, is the pride and glory of our Motherland.
The best dance groups and famous Turkmen pop artists dedicated their music and song performance to the beautiful city, where the most comfortable conditions for people are created. The song “Arkadag şäheri – bagtyň şäheri” and the best wishes to the independent Motherland, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and the President of Turkmenistan .
An automotive platform of the Ashgabat Hyakimlik, decorated with the models of the architectural symbols of the capital city of the country, passed in front of the State Tribune, accompanied by hundreds of workers.
Then a column, representing the five regions of the country, joined the procession. The photo panels, placed on the automotive platforms of the Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats, featured the world-famous historical and architectural monuments of the past and the monumental buildings of the present, attractions of the regions, making a worthy contribution to the prosperity of the Motherland.
Representatives of the older and younger generations greeted the President and numerous guests from the automotive platforms.
Representatives of all sectors of the national economy – best workers, distinguished craftsmen and young specialists, who had devoted their labour victories to the anniversary of independence of the Motherland – marched through the main square.
The hearty wishes to the Hero-Arkadag, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Motherland and the people were heard.
The celebrations in the main square of the country concluded with the song and musical performance “Arkadagly Gahryman Serdaryň ak ýoly bilen öňe!” devoted to the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, happy present and bright future of the beloved Motherland.
In memory of the festive event, representatives of the younger generation took pictures with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The holiday that had begun in the heart of the Motherland continued throughout the country on a grand scale.
